SRAM’s Crankworx support delivers tangible results for trails across the country
Looking to support the trail infrastructure that drew the world-famous Crankworx event to New Zealand, top-quality bike component manufacturer SRAM and national distributor Worralls teamed up with Trail Fund NZ to make it happen.
Thanks to the initiative, the SRAM Winter Grant Round is offering up to $6,000 to clubs across the country for volunteer-led projects. To apply for funding through the SRAM Winter Grants Round, click HERE.
“Crankworx was the biggest mountain bike event held in New Zealand in almost a decade and it’s fantastic to attract that level of competition to the country,” says Worrall’s SRAM product manager Peter Adams.
“To demonstrate our support, we wanted to ensure we gave something back to the trails that enabled the event to take place.”
When it came to choosing a trails organisation to partner with, Peter says Trail Fund was the obvious choice.
“Trail Fund has grown its profile and its efforts at an impressive rate since it originated in 2012,” says Peter. “We thought partnering with them would help endear our initiative to the public, and we were right.”
To raise the funds, SRAM sold t-shirts with a unique design at its Crankworx expo for $25 – and donated all the proceeds to Trail Fund.
“It went amazingly well,” says Peter. “Everyone seemed impressed by the design and the generosity of the concept – overall we sold more than 200 shirts, raising almost $5,000!”
To acknowledge the significant support from SRAM and Worralls, all the money raised will be allocated to projects through Trail Fund NZ’s next funding round – dubbed the ‘SRAM Winter Grant Round’.
“It’s great to see those in the bike industry supporting an organisation that helps fund the trails their customers ride,” says Trail Fund NZ chairperson Ben Wilde. “This sponsorship initiative by SRAM and Worralls clearly demonstrates the lengths they will go to to support mountain bikers and the events they love.”
There one catch – exactly how much funding will be available depends on whether Trail Fund NZ manages to sell the remaining 60-off shirts. At the moment, Trail Fund NZ is offering at least three grants of up to $1,500, so get your shirt now and help make it four!
