The Trail Fund conference is back!
After a three-year hiatus, we are stoked to invite all volunteer trail builders, and those who work with them, to reunite for a conference in New Plymouth!
The date is set for the 23rd and 24th of September and will include a morning checking out the trails with the local club, a hot-topic filled afternoon conference, an evening at the pub and, of course, a Sunday morning dig on the local trails - with the option of taking part in the Trail Crew course!
The general theme is - you guessed it! - volunteer trail building and how to overcome the challenges faced - be those regulations, stakeholders, or sheer competition for mountain biker's time and cents.
The spotlight is on conservation management strategies - and their limitations - in recent years, so the conference will include an update on the overall strategy, some input from clubs who've had some “success” in navigating them, and DOC representatives.
We'll also provide insight into a proposal for a National MTB Advocacy Body, and discuss the pros and cons of such an organisation. We’ll also be discussing the challenges and opportunities available when MTB clubs partner with, and build in, working forests - as is the case with the local trails in Lake Mangamahoe Mountain Bike Park.
As usual, we'll also have a ‘Whose Trail is it Anyways’ quiz, and a spirited panel debate - subject still under wraps - and invite all clubs who have received a grant from Trail Fund over the past 10 years to share their story. Are you a club who wants to share how a Trail Fund grant impacted their club in the long term? Please email communications manager Meagan on meagan@dinniss.co.nz .
